Oceanak (pr. o-shan-ak) is the new name of the Enterprise Reporting application
Maintained by the Commercial Fisheries - Business Intelligence Group |
Enterprise Reporting Objectives:Provide a Single Reporting Tool for All Commercial FisheriesIn Commercial Fisheries, as desktop applications such as Venus and Neptune are phased out by the eLandings Agency Desktop, it quickly became evident we would need something more robust to replace the reporting capabilities of those applications. In addition, we have gained the capability of 'real-time' data in some fisheries and lack the tools to report complex data. Further inquiries lead us to Region One and their 'Alex' tool which is also in need of replacement. Several meetings and presentations later, it became clear that a single reporting tool was needed by multiple sections of ADF&G Commercial Fisheries. The tool we have selected is Oracle Business Intelligence - Enterprise Edition (OBIEE). You will often hear this project referred to as the "BI" project. Provide a Data Warehouse as a Reporting SourceData in Commercial Fisheries is located in various repositories and formats across the State. Although much data is stored in Oracle databases, sometimes the structure of a transactional database does not allow for reporting without the need for a programmer. To resolve this issue, the Data Warehousing segment of this project will define datasets that are appropriate for extraction to the warehouse, then design and implement as the project team decides. The reporting tool (BI) will point to data on the data warehouse and provide navigation to existing reports, or allow you to design your own. Data Rescue SupportA third objective is to support one of the most valuable fisheries data resources in the country. Over the past few years, migrations to the Oracle database have provided a major step in this goal. But we need to do more. Many pieces of critical data exist in the form of Excel spreadsheets, MS Access databases or paper only. These sources we refer to as "spreadmarts". Spreadmarts represent the only method available for the collection of certain datasets due to time and budget constraints. We have teamed with the Salmon Data Access Working Group to provide a consultant from Axiom Consulting: Rob Bochenek. Phase one of this effort has been completed. The deliverable for that phase was a Requirements Analysis. Phase two will begin sometime in August and will include Milestone Tasks to start development of temporary data entry tools, coordination of data entry personnel, and initial reporting requirements for Cordova. (Note: these milestone tasks are in draft only at this time). Project Index |
